Alumni Career Journey - Jena Lin Manning

Former Intern Colombia interns who emphasize the lasting advantages of an internship abroad.

Presenting the inaugural edition of our Alumni Career Journeys, showcasing former Intern Colombia interns who emphasize the lasting advantages and effects of completing an internship overseas.

An internship abroad can have a huge impact towards your life and professional goals.

When we caught up with Jena, she told us about how her internship abroad experience in Colombia has positively impacted her career path:

Looking back on my Intern Colombia internship with Sistema B Colombia, I realize that it was a foundational experience that continues to guide my path in the development field today.

The internship shed light on the value of collaborating and conducting research with local stakeholders in development, which I currently try to reflect during my AmeriCorps service year.

As the Partnerships and Development (AmeriCorps) VISTA at the nonprofit Miami SCORES, I engage with local organizational partners and influential individuals who have the potential to further improve our social impact at Miami SCORES.

On a more personal basis, my time in Colombia also further connected me to the Spanish language and sparked my curiosity around Latin American cultures.

I find it in my interest to continue promoting social inclusion and recognition through research, communications, and/or special events and pushing to give a voice to historically marginalized/lesser known populations within the Americas, all the while engaging with local stakeholders throughout it all."

Stay tuned for the next installment of our Intern Colombia Alumni Career Journeys! We will continue to explore the career advantages of interning abroad with former interns.
